When we got in the room, the nurse wanted to weigh and measure Sydney to record how she is growing. Sydney weighed 11 pounds 14 ounces and measured 23 1/2 inches long. Basically she has gained 4 pounds and grew 2 1/2 inches. Dr. Lige was very impressed with how she is growing. She is in the 75th percentile for her weight and 90th percentile for her height. He is pretty sure she is going to be tall like her mommy! After listening to her heart, checking out her ears and eyes, and wiggling her around, Dr. Lige talked to us about how she is sleeping, eating, and pottying (Is that even a word???) He gave us all sorts of pointers and suggestions. Tim and I feel at complete ease with him and feel as though he is a wonderful doctor. Here is a picture of Dr. Lige. He may look young, but he has had a lot of practice with kids...he has five of his own!
Next, the "evil" nurse came in with the supplies for the shots. Sydney was going to get a total of five different shots, but they combined two of them so she only had to get poked three times. To me it was two times too many....I asked if they could combine the shots into one big mixture, but we had no such luck. We actually knew the nurse from when Tim and I were in high school... what a small world! She asked us to lay Sydney down on the bed and hold her arms....I absolutely HATED doing that but I knew it was for the best. As soon as the nurse gave her the first shot, Sydney started crying. She was so pitiful when she was crying and we had to fight back our tears as well. It was over within seconds and Sydney only cried for about a minute. We are not looking forward to her four month appointment because she has to get the next round of shots.
We gave her a few doses of Tylenol throughout the night to prevent her from getting a fever. She has done well since receiving her shots- it is probably from all of the hugs and kisses she got after getting those dreaded shots!
